REFLECTION #1

Structure, Nature and Life

Starting the documentary “Baraka” was confusing at the beginning, trying to figure out what was the documentary about or where it was going. But after a few minutes in I could sense the pattern and observe some predominant elements like: culture, rituals, religion, nature, structures. I found interesting how the documentary jumped or switched from tribes, structures, rituals and nature. It was like it’s linking them all together, which I found interesting. Since it’s an architecture class I thought that everything presented has a structure, not just physical buildings or places but nature has structure on its canyons, trees, clouds, etc. And tribes and rituals have an order structure on how their community and rituals work.

Also along the movie it goes from, what could we say old structures, to more modern ones like tall buildings and skyscrapers. And this presents a timeline along the documental. We don’t only see this with the buildings but also with nature it shows a more define separation with the modern world and nature. It’s shocking to see how nature has degraded because us humans have created cement in its place. And now in our time I think we have started to see the effects that humans caused in nature.

Some people don’t see this as a bad thing or see living in the jungle or something like that is weird. As tribes would see phones and technology as weird. But this is all part of our perception and our reality. The modern reality it’s not the same as another country’s reality or as a tribes one. Even though we have different realities there is one thing in common we live in a given space that has a structure. Structures can be like a general language.
